Excessive hair fall can be a traumatic and alarming issue to confront. Also, down the ages, ideals of beauty have placed a high value on hair. Hence it is an added pressure when there is hair fall. Keeping aside beauty, it is a major health issue caused due to some problems like internal diseases, reaction to medicines and improper intake of nutrients. Nutrition is as important to the hair as it is to the body. The following nutrient- rich foods will help fix the problem of hair fall.
Spinach– Popeye’s food as it is known in a child’s world, spinach is rich in iron and is best consumed in a boiled form to make up for the iron deficiency in the body. If you are anaemic, then even more a reason to stick to this leafy vegetable.
Carrots– Vitamin A-rich carrots provide excellent nourishment for the scalp. A nourished scalp ensures shiny, well-conditioned hair that is strengthened and moisturised. Make sure you munch a few carrots every day or have carrot juice / soup for healthy nourished hair.
Walnuts– Walnuts are known as hair friendly nuts. They are packed with nutrients like omega-6 fatty acids, zinc, iron, B vitamins (B1, B6 and B9) and protein which work wonders for hair. A handful of nuts over the week would be enough to keep your hair intact. Replace those oily evening snacks with a bowl of walnuts.
Sweet Potatoes– The pink, orange, and yellow varieties of sweet potato are one of the most concentrated dietary sources of beta-carotene which is great for hair strength. Make a bowl of smashed sweet potato, squeeze lemon into it and sprinkle some coriander on it to make a delicious dish that is good in taste as well as takes care of your hair fall problem.
Banana– Along with being a wonderful hair smoothening hair mask, bananas work great for hair health diet too. They are rich in potassium which prevents hair fall and encourages hair growth. Bananas can be eaten directly or can be consumed in interesting ways such as smoothie, ice cream, milkshake, salad and curry.
Almonds– Remember what your mother told you about Almonds? Almonds are an excellent source of magnesium. Deficiency of magnesium in your body can lead to hair fall. Consuming a handful of almonds soaked in water overnight is the trick to make up for the loss in magnesium in the body and prevent hair fall.
Lemon– Lemons are rich in Vitamin C and A which are important for healthy hair because they form the building blocks of sebum that coats hair follicles and protects them from breakage. A glass of warm lemon water early in the morning will do wonders for your hair and body fat.
Lentils– Lentils are loaded with protein, iron, zinc, and biotin which help prevent hair fall. Besides this, lentils are full of folic acid which is necessary for restoring health of red blood cells that supply skin and scalp with oxygen. A wide variety of lentils are available in India and scores of recipes to make dal and curry with them. Choose a favourite and consume them regularly for healthy hair.
